What you can expect

I think it would be an understatement to say that I love to learn. I am constantly finding myself enraptured by new topics, hobbies, people, places, and cultural phenomenomena. I am a reader of macro history, a builder of buzzy software, a writer of garbled words, a thinker of happy thoughts, and a careful observer of life. And so, my friends, I have decided to become a sharer of my human experience!

The biggest challenge with words is that they are finite. No matter how many of them I spew, I can never hope to communicate to you the entirety of what it means to be me, and so I will not try. Instead, I hope to enrich and enliven the experience of what it means to be you, by sharing what has done this for me!

This newsletter will explore everything from algorithmic frameworks for everyday life, to wisdoms i’ve learned from the wisest wizards, to bits and TidBits that resonate with me. That being said, I think I have more ideas than I know what to do with so things might be all over the place for a bit while I narrow in on what I like to talk, write, and think about most.

I'm probably gonna plan out more content than I actually have the bandwidth to get to (I have a full-time job and a life, you know), but here are some highlights you might be able to expect:

Quotes and Notes from world class performers

This one is inspired by one of my favorite books, Tribe of Mentors by Tim Ferris, where he asked over 100 of the world's top performers across a range of fields for advice and compiled their answers into a single thick ass, juicy ass book.

In this series, i'll try to give you guys short life advice from some of the best in the world to take into your week ahead.Sometimes I might do summaries and reflections from some of the best ideas in the book, but mostly, i'll be using this as an excuse to cold-email/DM cool people and see if they'll give me advice.

This is an infinitely extendable idea, so I don't see why I wouldn't feature it on the weekly cycle.

The list of mentors will include:

  • Terry Crews

  • Steven Pressfield

  • Debbie Millman

  • Naval Ravikant

  • Anyone who accepts my cold LinkedIn request

Explore and Exploit

Inspired by Algorithms to Live By by Brian Christian, i'll occasionally drop some essays where I discuss idea, framework, or product (sometimes technical, sometimes not) and explore what it is before I teach you how to exploit it to make better decisions or add value to your life.

Some topics include:

  • Using Optimal Stopping algorithms to overcome your fear of commitment.

  • Using what tech geeks know about neural networks to learn how psychedelics, traveling, and cleaning your room can help you get out of a rut.

  • Using the curse of dimensionality (a weird math thing) to prove that you are, in fact, special.

  • Using specific ChatGPT prompts for accomplishing specific tasks.

Mindful Musings

Every so often, i'll drop a longer post about a project i'm building, a book i'm reading, an idea i'm pondering, or whatever else I think my audience would be into that month. Mostly, this will just be whatever pseudo-insightful topic exploration I felt interested in at the moment that inspiration struck! These can come from current events or any of the topics I covered at the bottom of my very first newsletter.

Besides writing, i've also been getting really into building my own stuff lately (code, writing, tweeting, music, yktv). While one of these projects may become the seed of something to pursue more seriously (post-tech career and all) I want to use these earlier projects to learn, play, and share some cool things I make along the way. I'll try to keep these either practically useful, at least mildly entertaining, or incredibly thought-provoking.

And other stuff. Maybe. I make no promises.
